
The Ultima Gala has set a new tone in apple picking by becoming a fan favorite! The non-uniform color of the Gala features an orangey tint and sometimes striped skin. They're light and sweet and perfect for eating or tossing them on a fresh salad!
Pink Lady Cripps are a sweet mash-up of the Australian Lady Williams and the American classic Golden Delicious apple. With their sweet and refreshing taste, some have gone as far as to call them the "champagne of apples." They're perfect for snacking on, making sauce, and adding to your favorite salads.
The Gold Rush apple variety is derived from Golden Delicious as the seed parent, with crosses from several other varieties including Winesap, Melrose, Rome Beauty and Malus floribunda. The flavor is a little on the tart side, typical of Golden Delicious, but with more acidity. Great for snacking, baking, sauce, and used as a salad-topper!
The Honeycrisp apple set themselves apart from other apples in many ways. These beauties are known for their super crisp bite with a sweet and semi-tart flavor. Honeycrisps are excellent across the board. You can enjoy them as a snack, add them to your favorite pie recipe, or keep things classic with some cinnamon apple sauce.
1. For filling: Preheat oven to 375°F. In a large bowl combine apples, 2 tablespoons sugar or sugar substitute, lemon juice, and ½ teaspoon of the apple pie spice. Transfer apple mixture to a 2-quart square baking dish.
2. For topping: In medium bowl, combine oats, ¼ cup sugar or sugar substitute, flour, and ¼ teaspoon apple pie spice. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle topping over filling.
3. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until apple is tender and topping is golden brown. Serve warm. If desired, top with whipped topping.
4. Sugar Substitutes: Choose from Splenda® Granular, Equal® Spoonful or packets, or Sweet 'N Low® bulk or packets. Follow package directions to use product amount that's equivalent to 2 tablespoons sugar.
